Register today for our September Virtual Speaker Series event! This month, Mary Cullen is joining the Association for Women in Communication's Bloomington-Normal chapter to share her experience living on the "dark side" and how she made the move from journalism to PR.
Mary spent her formative years learning the ways of journalism from a student run-media in college, to a major Chicago daily newspaper and multiple Central Illinois-based NPR affiliate stations. She learned the ways of the reporter–from headline writing to the nut graph and from source selection to interviewing. Mary spent years understanding and falling in love with the world of journalism, growing into the ideal dark side convert.
About Mary Cullen:
Mary made the move from writing the news to pitching the news in 2020. After years as a print and broadcast radio reporter, Mary took her behind-the-scenes knowledge and applied it within the world of public relations. She is currently the Media Relations Manager for Connect2 Communications, a technology and telecom PR agency based out of Raleigh, NC. When she's not reading up on the latest trends in tech, Mary is creating art as part of her small business, Making Up Mary.
