In October, Tulsa County Commissioner Karen Keith will discuss the recent historic flooding and how that event thrust Tulsa into the national spotlight as concerns about our 70-year-old levee system holding grabbed news headlines across the country. When historic flooding occurred in Tulsa County in May and June of 2019, one major question was top of mind for city and county leaders: would the 70-year-old levees hold? County Commissioner Karen Keith will talk about the communication plan executed during the emergency and daily briefings led by herself and Mayor G.T. Bynum; and how the concern over the stability of the levee system thrust Tulsa into the national spotlight.
